TELEVISION & RADIO Duncan J. D. Smith has discussed and promoted his work extensively on radio and television.2013: www.radiostephansdom.at "Nur in Paris". 2008: Radio Augustin, Vienna - The Art of Urban Exploration in conversation with Florian Müller The City Explorer: He is an explorer specialised in the urban jungle: Duncan Smith. The native Englishman landed such a success with his city guide "Only in Vienna" that soon thereafter "Only in Budapest" and "Only in Berlin" appeared. "Only in Prague" will soon also be found on the bookshelves. His journeys always begin with a compass and a map - and then he starts walking. In his books he strives to seek out those hidden places of interest which are not mentioned in the traditional guidebooks. In discussion with Radio Augustin Duncan Smith talks about the do‘s and don‘ts of alternative city exploration.
2006: Radio Augustin, Vienna - Ein Bericht von Florian Müller über das Buch "Nur in Budapest" 2006: MacManiacs Podcast - Ein Bericht über das Buch "Nur in Wien" 1995: Granada Television, England - Episode of the ‘Dales Diary‘ featuring the book "North Yorkshire Curiosities" Proving that when it comes to history it‘s often the little things that provide the most enthralling stories. 1994: BBC Radio York, England - Interview and review of the book "North Yorkshire Curiosities" Interviews: In conversation with anthropologist, traveller and writer Indie Gandolfo In conversation with Basha O‘Reilly of the Long Riders‘ Guild In conversation with the British Guild of Travel Writers In conversation with American Urbanologist Max Grinnell Guest Writer article for Swedish explorer Mikael Strandberg In conversation with Paul Wild, Sheffield University School of Architecture for 3seventy5 magazine Amongst the crumbling walls and broken plaster I felt I was standing on the very spot that real lives had been played out, both good times and bad, I saw little difference between a Classical city in Turkey and an abandoned railway station in Sheffield. I suppose the former would seem more appealing to the visitor than the latter, but in essence they were the same. Both are accessible and both have important human history to relate. Lectures: 2011: Ethiopia: Secret Land of Africa (2 parts) Documentaries: 2011: Only in Vienna: A Guide to Hidden Corners (6 parts) Richard Tinkler: Absolutely love the media, especially the Vienna walking tour excerpts. Tim Hale: Great video. Fascinating. Caroline Bowden: Really, really enjoyed the Youtube tour of Vienna - all six segments. Particularly intrigued by the curvy Roman walls and the Judenplatz. Hans Kohlenberg: You come across very well on TV walking along nonchalantly through the streets of old Vienna seeking out whatever hidden corners there may be. Great stuff. Elisabeth-Joe Harriet: Thanks for those little films, very infotaining giving the feeling of an adventure, like everything made by the Urban Explorer. Simon Laffoley: I must congratulate you and Holger. I like the way you build up a relationship between presenter and cameraman. |
